Ron Paul: Total Victory, Yet Censorship Continues

Texas Congressman trounces rivals in all polls but is deliberately pushed to margins by terrified corporate media

by Paul Joseph Watson
Dated: May 9, 2007
SOURCE: Prison Planet

Ron Paul emerged from last week's GOP debate as completely victorious according to every available benchmark and yet there is still a deliberate ploy to push the Texas Congressman to the sidelines on behalf of a terrified corporate media.

Every single major online poll shows conclusively that Ron Paul won the debate by a mammoth margin, trouncing the bought and paid-for shill Neo-Con candidates that the establishment press are sworn to uphold.

Banking / Federal Reserve System

BY FAR, THE SINGLE GREATEST SLEIGHT-OF-HAND SCAM EVER
PERPETRATED ON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!!
SOURCE: Freedom Domain

Hey, I've got an idea. I'm going to open up a bank and force everyone to use my paper currency. If I can get everyone to borrow the paper from me, all I have to do is make sure I never run out of trees and I can sit back and collect the interest from now 'til eternity. But first, i'll have to invent a scheme to get everyone to stop using Real Money, Gold and Silver. I know, being that I'm the banker and everyone already trusts me with their Gold and Silver, i'll start off by printing Gold and Silver certificates that people can carry around instead of the metals, after all, metals are heavy and people can get robbed. Next, over a long period of time, say 20 years, i'll replace the certificates with federal reserve notes (completely WORTHLESS). I'll be rich and America will be BANKRUPT !! The only problem : Some elite English Freemason over at the Bank of England has already thought of it and called it the Federal Reserve System. Another case of "a day late and a dollar short." Well since they'll put us in jail if we were to do it today, we might as well EXPOSE the CRIMINALS for what they are: THIEVES : PARASITES with a PRINTING PRESS. Why does the U.S. Treasury borrow paper (bills of exchange-borrowed=Debt currency) from a foreign, private, for-profit Bank, which is in actuality owned and controlled by the Bank of England. I, by the way, am not the source of this particular charge. These are the findings of the American Congress in a report Titled "Steps Toward A British Union, A World State & International Strife." Ever since the Revolutionary War, England has despised America. Everything believed to the contrary is Propaganda.

England has wanted to establish a central bank in America, by which they could control our economy, for a very long time. Repeatedly, there have been attempts to do this and repeatedly, they failed. Mostly, because the American people knew about what Great Britain wanted to do. But, with the advent of airplanes and technology today, it seems to most Americans that this could no longer be the case. What most people do not realize is that this country would be a far different place if England hadn't gotten their way, back in 1913 with the passing of the Federal Reserve Act. It is a well known fact that English and European interests were heavily involved in this takeover. The Rothschilds, acting as agents for the Bank of England, sent their agents, the Warburgs and J.P. Morgan to set up the deals and "rig" it so that they could get the Act passed.

The Goldsmiths were the first bankers in early England. Primarily because people left their gold with the goldsmiths for safekeeping. The first paper money were "Receipts" for the gold deposits. These represented the gold in storage. These were easier to carry around, and safer, thus making paper money more popular. The goldsmiths realized, after a while, that few people ever came back to trade in their "receipts" for the gold at any one time. It was at this time that Goldsmiths realized they could issue more paper than they had Gold to back it up, thus leading the way to a cheated system. Then they could loan out more money than they had, and collect interest on it, as well. This was the beginning of "Fractional Reserve Banking", or loaning out more money than there is in assetts on deposit. This way nobody ever noticed their wealth accumulation. Currently, in the United States, banks can loan out 10 times the amount they have on deposit. The Goldsmiths also learned what could happen when the "Row" the economy by Issueing more money, then withdrawing that surplus from the economy. When there is more money, people spend more, and borrow more. Then when that money is taken out of the economy, there is no money to pay back the debts with, and it costs more to borrow more money. So, there are more bankruptcies, and re-possessions and the bankers can buy up everything for pennies on the dollar. This is exactly what is happening today. But today, economists who seek to hide these truths from you, call it the "Business Cycle".

Early philosophers like Aristotle, believed that usury was bad for society because the purpose of money was to move goods in society from person to person. The interest on money slowed all of that down, and hence, slowed down the progression of society. It put an unnecessary burdon on money.

Why is the Peace Movement Silent About AIPAC?

Capuano and Kucinich Come Clean About the Lobby
by John Walsh
Dated: April 17, 2007
SOURCE: Counterpunch

"AIPAC!" was the forceful one-word answer of Congressman Michael Capuano when we asked him, "Why was the Iran clause forbidding war on Iran without Congressional approval taken out of the recent supplemental for the Iraq war funding?" I nearly fell out of my chair at his reply - not because this was news but because of who had just said it. Capuano is a close ally of Nancy Pelosi, her fixer and enforcer. That was last Friday morning when a small delegation from Cambridge and Somerville, MA, were visiting the Congressman, known for his bluntness, as part of the nationwide UFPJ (United For Peace and Justice) home lobbying effort during the Congressional recess.

Later that day, Dennis Kucinich made an appearance at Harvard, where he was asked the same question, the reason for removing the Iran provision. "AIPAC," I volunteered out loud. Kucinich looked my way and said, "Exactly." Again my chair almost failed to contain me.

A few weeks earlier we had gone to the offices of Senators Kennedy and then Kerry to discuss the war. (My intention was to call their attention to www.FilibusterForPeace.org to which the Kennedy aide was sympathetic and the Kerry aide predictably hostile.) I raised the question of AIPAC directly with Kerry's aide, inquiring about its hawkish influence on Kerry and other Senators. Suddenly the aide was quite engaged. Leaning forward, he said: "That will never be discussed publicly. That will never be discussed publicly." Clearly even Kerry's office is unhappy with the pressure that comes from AIPAC.

Israeli Soldiers Hide Behind Palestinian Children They Use Forcibly As Human Shields

Using human shields scars Israel
Dated: April 14, 2007
by Amy Teibel, Associated Press
SOURCE: Cleveland Plain Dealer

Israel suspended a commander whose troops ordered two Palestinian youths in the West Bank to stand in front of their vehicle to protect it from stones thrown by locals, the army spokesman's office said Friday.

The incident in Nablus on Wednesday, captured on video, is the latest sign that the army continues to use human shields in violation of international law and a landmark Israeli Supreme Court ruling in 2005 barring the practice.

The army statement Friday said Israeli soldiers "apparently made prohibited use of civilians" and the unit's commander would be suspended "from all operational activity, in addition to the ongoing investigation into the matter." The commander was not named.

The footage was filmed by a foreign peace activist during a raid on the home of a wanted militant, and aired on the Yediot Ahronot newspaper Web site. Troops damaged the house, but the fugitive was not inside.

For years, Palestinians had complained about the army's use of human shields, but proof was elusive.

Then in late February, Associated Press Television News captured footage of a Palestinian man forced to lead heavily armed soldiers on a manhunt for militants, in a house-to-house search.

Others, including an 11-year-old girl, have come forward with similar accounts of being compelled to walk ahead of soldiers looking for militants.

Dave Zweifel: Amtrak may be rounding the bend

By Dave Zweifel
Dated: April 2, 2007
SOURCE: The Capital Times

No one knew what to expect about a year and a half ago when the Amtrak board of directors unceremoniously fired David L. Gunn as its president.
Gunn had been a fly in the ointment to the Bush administration's plans to effectively dismantle Amtrak by severing its highly successful Northeast Corridor runs from the system, cutting its federal subsidy and doing away with its long-distance trains.
He tenaciously fought the Bush plans and successfully lobbied members of Congress to thwart them. He wound up getting fired.
Some 10 months later, the Amtrak board finally decided on his permanent replacement, a former Union Pacific Railroad freight executive named Alexander K. Kummant. Since the president of Amtrak's board, David M. Lamey, is a Bush appointee, the natural assumption was that Kummant was the proverbial fox in Amtrak's henhouse.
Kummant, however, has been anything but.
He has come down squarely against any dismantling of Amtrak's long-distance trains, likening the City of New Orleans and the Empire Builder (which runs across Wisconsin) to national parks.
"The cost of cross-country trains comes to about a dollar and a half per American per year," he told The New York Times shortly after his appointment last September. "I haven't had the opportunity to go to Glacier National Park since 1976, but I pay taxes every year in the hope that I have the option to go back."
He added that once you do away with long-distance trains, they'll be gone forever.
He strongly opposes severing the profitable high-speed Northwest Corridor from the national Amtrak system and he is sure Amtrak can work with its unions rather than privatizing some of its services, a welcome relief for many Amtrak workers.

Cruise 'is Christ' of Scientology

By EMILY SMITH
SOURCE: The Sun Online
Dated: January 23, 2007

You could say, Tom Cruise is the top gun of Scientology. But though I have nothing against Scientology, and though I don't support all of the condescending bias against a particular religion just because its not Semitic (i.e. Catholic/Muslim/Jewish), - I'd say Tom Cruise's potential of reaching the popularity of Christ sounds to me like a mission impossible. - ed.

TOM Cruise is the new “Christ” of Scientology, according to leaders of the cult-like religion.

The Mission: Impossible star has been told he has been “chosen” to spread the word of his faith throughout the world.

And leader David Miscavige believes that in future, Cruise, 44, will be worshipped like Jesus for his work to raise awareness of the religion.

A source close to the actor, who has risen to one of the church’s top levels, said: “Tom has been told he is Scientology’s Christ-like figure.

“Like Christ, he’s been criticised for his views. But future generations will realise he was right.”

Cruise joined the Church of Scientology in the ’80s. Leader L Ron Hubbard claimed humans bear traces of an ancient alien civilisation.

Social Security Agreement With Mexico Released After 3 1/2 Year Freedom of Information Act Battle

Dated: December 29, 2006
SOURCE: PR Newswire

WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- After numerous refusals
over three and a half years, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has
released the first known public copy of the U.S.-Mexico Social Security
Totalization Agreement. The government was forced to make the disclosure in
response to lawsuits filed under the Freedom of Information Act by TREA
Senior Citizens League, a 1.2 million-member nonpartisan seniors advocacy
group.
The Totalization Agreement could allow millions of illegal Mexican
workers to draw billions of dollars from the U.S. Social Security Trust
Fund.
The agreement between the U.S. and Mexico was signed in June 2004, and
is awaiting President Bush's signature. Once President Bush approves the
agreement, which would be done without Congressional vote, either House of
Congress would have 60 days to disapprove the agreement by voting to reject
it.

Saddam tended birds and plants in jail, nurse says

Dated: January 1, 2007
SOURCE: Guardian Unlimited

Saddam Hussein was executed on December 30, 2006. [ed.]

A military nurse who cared for Saddam Hussein said the former dictator saved bread crusts to feed birds and tended a small plot of weeds while in jail.

Master Sergeant Robert Ellis was under orders to prevent the former Iraqi dictator from dying in US custody. "That was my job: to keep him alive and healthy, so they could kill him at a later date," he told the St Louis Post-Dispatch after Saddam's execution on Saturday.

"I knew all along what they were going to do. This went against my grain as a nurse, but as a soldier - well, that was my job," Sgt Ellis said.

When he was allowed short visits outside, Saddam would feed the birds crusts of bread saved from his meals. He also watered a dusty plot of weeds, Sgt Ellis said.

"He said he was a farmer when he was young and he never forgot where he came from." The nurse, who cared for Saddam from January 2004 until August 2005, checked on him twice a day and wrote a daily report on his physical and emotional condition.

Saddam insisted on smoking cigars and drinking coffee to keep his blood pressure down, Sgt Ellis told the paper. "He had very good coping skills." But he also revealed that Saddam came close to being killed when he was being transported. He was apparently shot at and once escaped a roadside bomb.

Saddam shared with his nurse memories of when his children were young, and how he would tell them bedtime stories. When Sgt Ellis told Saddam he had to leave for America because his brother was dying, Saddam hugged him and said he would be Sgt Ellis's brother.

"I was there to help him, and he respected that," Sgt Ellis said. Saddam never discussed dying and expressed no regrets about his rule.

"He said everything he did was for Iraq," Sgt Ellis said. "One day when I went to see him, he asked why we invaded. Well, he made gestures like shooting a machine gun and asked why soldiers came and shot up the place."

He told the nurse that the laws in Iraq were fair and the weapons inspectors didn't find anything.

Antikythera Conference Begins Thursday
SOURCE: Wired News

"Decoding The Antikythera Mechanism: Science and Technology in Ancient Greece," a conference beginning Thursday's in Athens, is devoted solely to a 2,000 year old bronze artefact that has puzzled and baffled scientists for more than 100 years. Now, an Anglo-Greek team has, according to reports, found the solution to the device's secrets.

Of all the technological puzzles presented by our own past, the Antikythera Mechanism is among the most fascinating. Greek fire? Little more than lime and old bones, a formula for napalm. Babylon's batteries? Mere strips of copper and nickel. Roman steam engines? Toys for wealthy equites.

But the mechanism... an intricate analog computer, produced by ancient Mediterranean clockmakers, using countless cogs, and even differential gears, to plot the movements of heavenly bodies. It is, if nothing else, a true gadget: a portable, small form-factor computing device both useful and beautiful.

The Ancient Magian Bloodline of the Shi'a Clergy and the Religion of the Black Sun

Dated: November 24, 2006
SOURCE: The Aryan National Press

It is commonplace to hear talk of the foreign-blooded origins of the Shi'a clerics in Iran, such as Ayatollahs Ruhollah Khomeini and the current Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. It is assumed that they are not of Iranian origins, but rather of Arab origins, or even, as in the case of Khomeini, of Indian descent. However, what all these speculations have in common is their ignorance of one basic fact: that all the mullahs of Iran are related to each other and share a common bloodline.

If we investigate the genealogical histories of each and every notable Shi'a cleric, we discover that there is indeed no escape from this fundamental truth. Like the royal families of Europe, the clerical families of Iran do not marry outside their clique, but rather intermarry with each other. You will not find a single mullah of any worth or influence who has ever married a woman from a non-clergy family. And each and every one of these mullahs, whether mid-level clerics such as Rafsanjani and Khatami or higher-ranking ones such as Montazeri and Shirazi, are descended from the same exact ancestors.

And thus we arrive at the inevitable, "Where do the mullahs come from? Who are they and what they do want?" But the answer is not one that most of us are prepared to hear, let alone accept. But the fact remains that any serious and critical study of the genealogical roots of the Shi'a clergy of Iran will bring us to these very shocking and earth-shattering truths.

These are the truths that the mullahs have sought to protect and keep hidden for so long. Truths that are so dangerous and controversial that any investigator in Iran who dares to print them risks a fate worse than death in the secret dungeons that exist deep underground, where the most dissident of dissidents are held. What we share with you here is only a fragment of the larger equation that we have been able to verify, and as such this is only the tip of the iceberg.

The truth is that the bloodline of the Shi'a clergy is indigenous to Iran, extending deep into the prehistory of our land, long before Islam or even Judaism ever came to be. In history it is recorded that the ancient Magians were a tribe of Media. The Medes, of course, were the first founders of an indigenous Aryan empire, the precursor to the Persian Empire which was established much later by Cyrus the Great. The Magians were a priestly tribe who at that point were principally responsible for the religious and funerary observances of the Iranian peoples. This is all very well mentioned in the history books.

But what is not commonly acknowledged is that the Magian bloodline predated the Aryan arrival, and can actually be traced back to the ancient land of Sumer to the west of the Iranian plateau in Mesopotamia. The civilization of Sumer, the peoples of which were not likely to have been indigenous to the region, had an immense impact upon the neighbouring civilizations of Elam, Kassu, Assyria, and Babylonia, all of which are recognised to have been indigenous to southwest Asia.

No Freedom of Speech in Europe

Freedom for Europe’s Prisoners of Conscience!

By Mark Weber -- November 16, 2006
SOURCE: Institute For Historical Review

Europeans are proud of their record of support for freedom of speech, and tolerance of dissident views. But there is a glaring exception to this record.

In Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and several other European countries, as well as in Israel, it is a crime to publicly dispute the official version of Holocaust history. Those who express dissident views about this chapter of history are routinely imprisoned, fined or forced into exile.

Currently three prominent “Holocaust deniers” are being held behind bars in Europe.

U.S. Could Be Going Bankrupt

by Edmund Conway
Dated: July 14, 2006
SOURCE: Telegraph, U.K.

[It's disgusting and outrageous that our government is betraying us to the point of economic collapse. -ed.]

The United States is heading for bankruptcy, according to an extraordinary paper published by one of the key members of the country's central bank.

A ballooning budget deficit and a pensions and welfare timebomb could send the economic superpower into insolvency, according to research by Professor Laurence Kotlikoff for the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis, a leading constituent of the US Federal Reserve.

Prof Kotlikoff said that, by some measures, the US is already bankrupt. "To paraphrase the Oxford English Dictionary, is the United States at the end of its resources, exhausted, stripped bare, destitute, bereft, wanting in property, or wrecked in consequence of failure to pay its creditors," he asked.

According to his central analysis, "the US government is, indeed, bankrupt, insofar as it will be unable to pay its creditors, who, in this context, are current and future generations to whom it has explicitly or implicitly promised future net payments of various kinds''.

The budget deficit in the US is not massive. The Bush administration this week cut its forecasts for the fiscal shortfall this year by almost a third, saying it will come in at 2.3pc of gross domestic product. This is smaller than most European countries - including the UK - which have deficits north of 3pc of GDP.

Prof Kotlikoff, who teaches at Boston University, says: "The proper way to consider a country's solvency is to examine the lifetime fiscal burdens facing current and future generations. If these burdens exceed the resources of those generations, get close to doing so, or simply get so high as to preclude their full collection, the country's policy will be unsustainable and can constitute or lead to national bankruptcy.

"Does the United States fit this bill? No one knows for sure, but there are strong reasons to believe the United States may be going broke."

Experts have calculated that the country's long-term "fiscal gap" between all future government spending and all future receipts will widen immensely as the Baby Boomer generation retires, and as the amount the state will have to spend on healthcare and pensions soars. The total fiscal gap could be an almost incomprehensible $65.9 trillion, according to a study by Professors Gokhale and Smetters.

The figure is massive because President George W Bush has made major tax cuts in recent years, and because the bill for Medicare, which provides health insurance for the elderly, and Medicaid, which does likewise for the poor, will increase greatly due to demographics.

A kitten has been born with two faces and veterinarians don't understand why.

The kitten was born Wednesday morning in Ohio. It has two mouths that meow in unison, two noses and four eyes that have not opened yet.

The little boy who owns the cat said he hasn't decided on a name for the kitten yet, but said he wants to name it Tiger.

Two other kittens were in the same litter, but they are normal.

Veterinarians say this occurrence is very rare, but the kitten could be just fine. It has already begun nursing just like the other kittens in the litter.

The Dark Carnival Descends on Washington State

by Andrew A. Anissi
Dated: July 15, 2006

group2.jpg
On several occasions last month, evil clowns appeared in Pierce County's Fort Steilacoom Park and attacked visitors, chanting "Woo! Woo! Juggalo!"

Reports have stated that the Juggalos, with faces painted like angry clowns and dark clothing with clown insignias, robbed people at night, assaulted them machetes, and threatened beheadings.

A group from Detroit, Michigan known as the "Insane Clown Posse" first described the "Juggalos" through six musical works referred to as "Joker Cards." It was prophecized that after the unveiling of the sixth Joker card, a Dark Carnival would sweep across the land, comprised of "a parade of freaks, jugglers and death."

Though the incidents in Washington state likely have no direct connection to the Insane Clown Posse or their prophecy, the multiplicity of such incidents could give rise to a stand alone complex, with obsessed fans, copycats, and adherents creating the Dark Carnival by repeated "Juggalo" acts, even though an original source never existed.

Despite potential controversy, a former SS officer set to open a memorial near Millard

"Hitler did nothing.

"When the war happened, he tried everything diplomatic--everything.

"The soldiers of the Third Reich never stole anything. I fought next to them. They were good men. Never times were they bad.

"Not one person was gassed to death in the Third Reich."

This is what Ted Junker of Millard believes.

Junker says he was born in 1919 in Germany and fought as a German Waffen-Schutzstaffel (SS) officer during World War II.

For 60 years he has mulled over what he remembers happening during those years. And in the years since he has come to see those events as totally opposite from how they are commonly told.

"When I was laying in bed at night, I would ask, 'How is it possible that people get so misinformed?'" he says through a strong German accent.

Congressman McFadden's Speech on the Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve-A Corrupt Institution

"Mr. Chairman, we have in this Country one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever known. I refer to the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Reserve Banks, hereinafter called the Fed. The Fed has cheated the Government of these United States and the people of the United States out of enough money to pay the Nation's debt. The depredations and iniquities of the Fed has cost enough money to pay the National debt several times over.

"This evil institution has impoverished and ruined the people of these United States, has bankrupted itself, and has practically bankrupted our Government. It has done this through the defects of the law under which it operates, through the maladministration of that law by the Fed and through the corrupt practices of the moneyed vultures who control it.

"Some people who think that the Federal Reserve Banks United States Government institutions. They are private monopolies which prey upon the people of these United States for the benefit of themselves and their foreign customers; foreign and domestic speculators and swindlers; and rich and predatory money lender. In that dark crew of financial pirates there are those who would cut a man's throat to get a dollar out of his pocket; there are those who send money into states to buy votes to control our legislatures; there are those who maintain International propaganda for the purpose of deceiving us into granting of new concessions which will permit them to cover up their past misdeeds and set again in motion their gigantic train of crime.

"These twelve private credit monopolies were deceitfully and disloyally foisted upon this Country by the bankers who came here from Europe and repaid us our hospitality by undermining our American institutions. Those bankers took money out of this Country to finance Japan in a war against Russia. They created a reign of terror in Russia with our money in order to help that war along. They instigated the separate peace between Germany and Russia, and thus drove a wedge between the allies in World War. They financed Trotsky's passage from New York to Russia so that he might assist in the destruction of the Russian Empire. They fomented and instigated the Russian Revolution, and placed a large fund of American dollars at Trotsky's disposal in one of their branch banks in Sweden so that through him Russian homes might be thoroughly broken up and Russian children flung far and wide from their natural protectors. They have since begun breaking up of American homes and the dispersal of American children. "Mr. Chairman, there should be no partisanship in matters concerning banking and currency affairs in this Country, and I do not speak with any.

"In 1912 the National Monetary Association, under the chairmanship of the late Senator Nelson W. Aldrich, made a report and presented a vicious bill called the National Reserve Association bill. This bill is usually spoken of as the Aldrich bill. Senator Aldrich did not write the Aldrich bill. He was the tool, if not the accomplice, of the European bankers who for nearly twenty years had been scheming to set up a central bank in this Country and who in 1912 has spent and were continuing to spend vast sums of money to accomplish their purpose.

"We were opposed to the Aldrich plan for a central bank. The men who rule the Democratic Party then promised the people that if they were returned to power there would be no central bank established here while they held the reigns of government. Thirteen months later that promise was broken, and the Wilson administration, under the tutelage of those sinister Wall Street figures who stood behind Colonel House, established here in our free Country the worm-eaten monarchical institution of the "King's Bank" to control us from the top downward, and from the cradle to the grave.

"The Federal Reserve Bank destroyed our old and characteristic way of doing business. It discriminated against our 1-name commercial paper, the finest in the world, and it set up the antiquated 2-name paper, which is the present curse of this Country and which wrecked every country which has ever given it scope; it fastened down upon the Country the very tyranny from which the framers of the Constitution sough to save us.

A defense witness in Saddam Hussein's trial over the killings of Iraqi Shiite villagers claimed many of those allegedly executed are in fact alive and said the prosecution case is built on bribes.

The anonymous witness said he was a teenager in Dujail in 1982 when an attempt on Saddam's life led to what the prosecution has termed a massive crackdown on the village, hundreds of arrests and the execution of 148 people.

"The prosecutor said they were executed, but I am telling you I ate with them some time ago" and that 23 of them were alive, said the witness, who had worked at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison in the mid-1980s.

"Many of them have gotten rich and occupy powerful positions," he said, as he testified from behind a curtain, going on to write down the names for the judge.

"If it is true and these people are still alive, this whole case should be reconsidered from the beginning," said the lawyer for Awad al-Bandar, whose revolutionary court under Saddam sentenced the men to death in 1984.

Saddam and seven associates are on trial for crimes against humanity stemming from the arrests, torture and execution of Dujail villagers as well as the destruction of their property.

The witness charged that the whole case was fabricated.

Bushite Neo-Cons Responsible For May Day Immigration Protests

Dated: May 1, 2006
by Paul Joseph Watson and Alex Jones
SOURCE: Infowars.com

US PR Firm Hired by Bush and Fox to Stage Illegal Immigrant Demonstrations

Today's massive immigration protests which are being afforded lavish and complimentary media attention were orchestrated by the Neo-Cons and the Bush administration and represent a fifth columnist movement openly intent on destroying America as we know it.

The agenda is multi-faceted and includes protecting government drug-running operations, balkanizing the US and lowering the standard of living, and inciting race riots that lead to the justification of martial law and internment procedures being implemented.

As we reported last month, in late December 2005, Mexican President Vicente Fox hired a lobbying firm to sweeten political sentiment in the US towards Mexicans and the immigration issue. The same PR expert and GOP political consultant helped George W. Bush defeat Ann Richards for the governorship of Texas in 1994 and worked on both Bush's presidential campaigns.

Rob Allyn of Rob Allyn & Co. secretly engineered Fox's 2000 presidential victory and is closely tied with George W. Bush.

There can be no doubt that a foreign government is working in tandem with the government of the United States and a powerful, politically-connected public relations firm to manufacture consent and to hold back a growing grassroots movement to defend America's sovereignty.

The LA Times reported that Vicente Fox hired Allyn & Co. when the rumblings of immigration reform began to be heard in Congress. The firm was hired to create a mechanism to sway public opinion in favor of Mexico and Mexican immigrants into the U.S. at the same moment public concern over border security was beginning to reach a fever pitch. The timing is impeccable.

US professors accused of being liars and bigots over essay on pro-Israeli lobby

by Julian Borger
Dated: March 31, 2006
SOURCE: The Guardian Unlimited

An article by two prominent American professors arguing that the pro-Israel lobby exerts a dominant and damaging influence on US foreign policy has triggered a furious row, pitting allegations of anti-semitism against claims of intellectual intimidation.

Stephen Walt, the academic dean of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, and John Mearsheimer, a political science professor at the University of Chicago, published two versions of the essay, the Israel Lobby, in the London Review of Books and on a Harvard website.

Article continues
The pro-Israel lobby and its sway over American policy has always been a controversial issue, but the professors' bluntly worded polemic created a firestorm, drawing condemnation from left and right of the political spectrum.

Professor Walt's fellow Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz - criticised in the article as an "apologist" for Israel - denounced the authors as "liars" and "bigots" in the university newspaper, The Harvard Crimson, and compared their arguments to neo-Nazi literature.

"Accusations of powerful Jews behind the scenes are part of the most dangerous traditions of modern anti-semitism," wrote two fellow academics, Jeffrey Herf and Andrei Markovits, in a letter to the London Review of Books. Critics also pointed out that the article had been praised by David Duke, a notorious American white supremacist.

Prof Mearsheimer said the storm of protest proved one of its arguments - that the strength of the pro-Israel lobby stifled debate on US foreign policy.

"We argued in the piece that the lobby goes to great lengths to silence criticism of Israeli policy as well as the US-Israeli relationship, and that its most effective weapon is the charge of anti-semitism," Prof Mearsheimer told The Guardian. "Thus, we expected to be called anti-semites, even though both of us are philo-semites and strongly support the existence of Israel."

He added: "Huge numbers of people know this story to be true but are afraid to say it because they would punished by pro-Israeli forces."

Rights Group: Iraqi Women Worse Off Under Occupation

by Sanjay Suri
Dated: March 30, 2006
SOURCE: antiwar.com

Women were far better off under former Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein, a women's group has found after an extensive survey in Iraq.

"Under the previous dictator regime, the basic rights for women were enshrined in the constitution," Houzan Mahmoud from the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq told IPS in an interview. The group is a sister organization of MADRE, an international women's rights group.

Under Saddam, she said, "women could go out to work, university, and get married or divorced in civil courts. But at the moment women have lost almost all their rights and are being pushed back into the corner of their house."

The recent constitution, which was written under the U.S. government's supervision, is "very backward and anti-women," Mahmoud said. "They make Islam the source for lawmaking, and the main official religion of the country. This in itself means Islamic Sharia law, and according to this, women will be considered second-class citizens and will have no power in deciding over their lives."

The whole of Iraqi society has been subjected to "chaos and brutalization," she said. "Security is absent, all basic services, and above all the protection for women's rights is in no way on the agenda of any of the political parties who have been hand-picked by the U.S. administration in the installed so-called parliament."

Easter bunny paraded out of City Hall

by Jason Hoppin
Dated: March 23, 2006
SOURCE: Grand Forks Herald

St. Paul civil rights chief says non-Christians might find the holiday decoration offensive
[Sort of like how non-Christians might find the name "St. Paul" offensive.]

So long, Easter Bunny.

A toy rabbit decorating the entrance of the St. Paul City Council offices went hop-hop-hoppin' on down the bunny trail Wednesday after the city's human rights director said non-Christians might be offended by it.

The decorations including the stuffed rabbit, Easter eggs and a handcrafted sign saying "Happy Easter," but nothing depicting the biblical account of Christ's death and resurrection were put up this week in the office of the City Council by a council secretary.

It was not the first holiday decoration ever to go up in the building, but City Hall observers believe it is the first one to come down out of concerns for religious sensitivity.

"I sent an e-mail that Easter is viewed as a Christian holiday and advised that it be taken down," said Tyrone Terrill, the city's human rights director. "It wasn't a big deal." But City Council Member Dave Thune thought the display was harmless.

"I absolutely wonder how colored eggs and bunnies and chickens are Christian," Thune said. "I'm a little puzzled how people can be offended."

No Respect For Hero's Religion

Dated: March 25, 2006
SOURCE: Sploid

Nevada National Guard Sgt. Patrick Stewart paid the ultimate price for his patriotism.

In September, he was riding with fellow U.S. soldiers on a Chinook helicopter when it was shot down in Afghanistan. Stewart and four others were killed.

But the spot for his memorial plaque at the Northern Nevada Veteran's Cemetery remains blank.

Stewart was a Wiccan.

The Veteran's Administration has never authorized the use of Wicca's pentacle on grave markers, even though it allows the use of symbols from 38 other beliefs, including obscure or possibly fictional religions such as Ixumo Taishakyo, Soks Gakkai, Aaronic Order, Seicho-no-ie and Presbyterians.

Stewart's 12-year-old stepdaughter, Alexandria, sent a heartfelt letter to the secretary of veterans affairs:

""Why won't you put my dad's religion sign on a plaque? He respected you and your rules and went and fought for our country and died for our country and this is how you treat him and his family."

The Israel Lobby

by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt
Dated: March 13, 2006
SOURCE: Harvard University

For the past several decades, and especially since the Six-Day War in 1967, the centrepiece of US Middle Eastern policy has been its relationship with Israel. The combination of unwavering support for Israel and the related effort to spread ‘democracy’ throughout the region has inflamed Arab and Islamic opinion and jeopardised not only US security but that of much of the rest of the world. This situation has no equal in American political history. Why has the US been willing to set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in order to advance the interests of another state? One might assume that the bond between the two countries was based on shared strategic interests or compelling moral imperatives, but neither explanation can account for the remarkable level of material and diplomatic support that the US provides.

Instead, the thrust of US policy in the region derives almost entirely from domestic politics, and especially the activities of the ‘Israel Lobby’. Other special-interest groups have managed to skew foreign policy, but no lobby has managed to divert it as far from what the national interest would suggest, while simultaneously convincing Americans that US interests and those of the other country – in this case, Israel – are essentially identical.

Since the October War in 1973, Washington has provided Israel with a level of support dwarfing that given to any other state. It has been the largest annual recipient of direct economic and military assistance since 1976, and is the largest recipient in total since World War Two, to the tune of well over $140 billion (in 2004 dollars). Israel receives about $3 billion in direct assistance each year, roughly one-fifth of the foreign aid budget, and worth about $500 a year for every Israeli. This largesse is especially striking since Israel is now a wealthy industrial state with a per capita income roughly equal to that of South Korea or Spain.

Patriot Act Game Pokes Fun at Government

Dated: March 18, 2006
SOURCE: CBS News

In this send-up of "Monopoly," players don't pass "Go" and they don't go directly to jail _ they go to Guantanamo Bay.

Instead of losing cash for landing on certain squares, they lose civil liberties. And the "Mr. Monopoly" character at the center of the board is replaced by a scowling former Attorney General John Ashcroft.

"Patriot Act: The Home Version" pokes fun at "the historic abuse of governmental powers" by the recently renewed anti-terrorism law.

But while it may be fun, creator Michael Kabbash, a graphic artist and Arab civil rights advocate, is serious about how he feels the law has curtailed Americans' freedom.

The object of the game is not to amass the most money or real estate, but to be the last player to retain civil liberties.

"I've had people complain to me that when they play, nobody wins. They say `We're all in Guantanamo and nobody has any civil liberties left,'" he said. "I'm like `Yeah, that's the point.'"

Video shows Bush being warned over Katrina

Dated: March 2, 2006
SOURCE: The Guardian Unlimited, UK

The US president, George Bush, was warned before Hurricane Katrina struck that it could cause huge devastation, according to leaked video footage.

The footage appears to contradict Mr Bush's later claims that the scale of the damage took officials by surprise.

Obtained by the Associated Press and broadcast on TV networks today, it shows federal staff and experts telling the president that Katrina could breach levees in New Orleans, putting lives at risk.

Mr Bush listened but did not ask questions during the briefing on August 28 - a day before Katrina hit the Gulf coast. He told state officials: "We are fully prepared."

Four days after the storm devastated New Orleans, however, the president declared: "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees." The breach sent deadly floodwaters pouring into the city.

Free Speech Suffers a Blow as Austrian Sentences Historian To 3 Years in Prison For Researching the Holocaust

Irving case prompts Austria law debate
by Bethany Bell
Dated February 20, 2006
SOURCE: BBC News

"This is a silly law by silly people for silly people." - Lothar Hobelt, Professor of History, University of Vienna
The trial of the British historian David Irving has unleashed a debate in Austria about the country's Holocaust denial law, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.

The law was enacted after World War II, and was meant to prevent any further Nazi activities.

Austria had been annexed to Nazi Germany in 1938, and was deeply involved in the crimes of the Third Reich.

A few Austrians, such as Lothar Hobelt,

an associate professor of history at the University of Vienna, believe it should never have been set up at all.

"This is a silly law by silly people for silly people," he said.

"In fact, having a law that says you mustn't question a particular historical instance, if anything, creates doubt about it, because if an argument has to be protected by the force of law, it means it's a weak argument."

Row over Israeli tolerance museum

by Martin Patience
Dated: February 17, 2006
SOURCE: BBC News

Apparently Israel is tearing up a 1,000 year old Palestinian cemetery and building a Museum of Tolerance on top of it. First of all, haven't these people seen The Poltergeist? And second of all, isn't desecreating a Semitic cemetery an act of anti-Semitism? Not the best way to start a "Museum of Tolerance."

or the last 40 years Mohammed Hamdi Bader has left his tailor's shop in the Old City once a month and taken a short walk to the heart of west Jerusalem where he prayed close to his grandfather's grave.

But the 49-year-old Palestinian father-of-five can no longer reach the grave and he's furious about it.

The Maamam Allah cemetery, which is at least 1,000 years old, has become a building site.

The Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Centre is constructing a Museum of Tolerance on the cemetery. The centre says the museum will seek to promote "unity and respect among Jews and between people of all faiths".

The project has raised the ire of the Muslim community in the city. There have been accusations that exhumed remains have been damaged.

Despite a temporary injunction on work at the site issued by the Islamic Court - a division of the Israeli justice system - Israeli archaeologists and developers have continued excavating remains at the cemetery, says Durgham Saif, a Palestinian lawyer.

Israeli family accuses LA area police of wrongful death

by Associated Press
Dated: February 16, 2006
SOURCE: The Jerusalem Post

Two undercover police officers shot and killed an Israeli Jew in 2004 after they mistook him for a Middle Easterner or Muslim, then tried to cover up the wrongful death by raiding the man's apartment in hopes of finding evidence of contraband or illegal activities, the man's parents alleged in a lawsuit.

The complaint filed in federal court Wednesday named the Los Angeles and Burbank police departments and officers Scott Meadows and Jose Duran as defendants. An attorney for Assaf Deri's family said he did not know which departments the officers worked for, suggesting the suit may be amended as he learns more details of the June 25, 2004, shooting.

"The basic fact is, the police targeted this young man simply because he looked Middle Eastern," attorney Browne Greene said.
The suit alleged wrongful death, negligence, civil rights violations, assault and battery and false arrest. It seeks punitive damages.

Democrats Force Popular War Veteran Out of Senate Race

Popular Ohio Democrat Drops Out of Race, and Perhaps Politics
by Ian Urbina
Dated February 14, 2006
SOURCE: The New York Times

The Republican Party has been hijacked by people who "aren't a whole lot different from Osama bin Laden." - Paul Hackett
Paul Hackett, an Iraq war veteran and popular Democratic candidate in Ohio's closely watched Senate contest, said yesterday that he was dropping out of the race and leaving politics altogether as a result of pressure from party leaders.

Mr. Hackett said Senators Charles E. Schumer of New York and Harry Reid of Nevada, the same party leaders who he said persuaded him last August to enter the Senate race, had pushed him to step aside so that Representative Sherrod Brown, a longtime member of Congress, could take on Senator Mike DeWine, the Republican incumbent.

Mr. Hackett staged a surprisingly strong Congressional run last year in an overwhelmingly Republican district and gained national prominence for his scathing criticism of the Bush administration's handling of the Iraq War. It was his performance in the Congressional race that led party leaders to recruit him for the Senate race.

"For me, this is a second betrayal," Mr. Hackett said. "First, my government misused and mismanaged the military in Iraq, and now my own party is afraid to support candidates like me."
But for the last two weeks, he said, state and national Democratic Party leaders have urged him to drop his Senate campaign and again run for Congress.

"This is an extremely disappointing decision that I feel has been forced on me," said Mr. Hackett, whose announcement comes two days before the state's filing deadline for candidates. He said he was outraged to learn that party leaders were calling his donors and asking them to stop giving and said he would not enter the Second District Congressional race.

Senate Republicans and Democrats Unite Their Voices Against Neocon Administration's Foreign Policy

Republicans Criticize Bush Mideast Policy
by Anne Gearan, AP Diplomatic Writer
Dated: February 15, 2006
SOURCE: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican senators criticized the Bush administration Wednesday over its policies in Iraq, Iran and the Palestinian territories, as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's first testimony on Capitol Hill in months exposed her to a tough grilling from some members of her own party.

"I don't see, Madame Secretary, how things are getting better. I think things are getting worse. I think they're getting worse in Iraq. I think they're getting worse in Iran," Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., told Rice as she appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Rice also had a tense exchange with moderate Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, R-R.I., over the pace of progress toward Israeli-Palestinian peace and the implications of the Hamas victory in Palestinian legislative elections last month.

4000 Year Old Sumerian Love Poem Preserved at Istanbul Museum of the Ancient Orient

by Sebnem Arsu
Dated: February 14, 2006
SOURCE: The New York Times

poem2.184.jpg
ISTANBUL, Feb. 13 — It is as tiny as the sleekest mobile phones that fit in the palm of the hand, but its message is anything but modern. A small tablet in a special display this month in the Istanbul Museum of the Ancient Orient is thought to be the oldest love poem ever found, the words of a lover from more than 4,000 years ago. Skip to next paragraph Yoray Liberman for The New York Times

The 4,000-year-old cuneiform tablet is on display at the Istanbul Museum of the Ancient Orient.

The ancient Sumerian tablet was unearthed in the late 1880's in Nippur, a region in what is now Iraq, and had been resting quietly in a modest corner of the museum until it was brought back to the limelight this year by a company that made it part of a Valentine's Day promotion.

The poem sits among Sumerian documents such as a court verdict from 2030 B.C. breaking an engagement, a property sale and documentation of a murder. Despite the tablets' ancient lineage, they had gone relatively unnoticed by most museum visitors until the company provided the money to make it the centerpiece of a special exhibit.

"It must be written by a man desperately in love with the rich princess," guessed Choi Na Kyoung, 27, a tourist from Korea, examining the love poem on clay on a recent day. But she was mistaken.

The tablet in fact contains a daring — and risqué — ballad in which a priestess professes her love for a king, though it is believed that the words are in fact a script for a ceremonial re-creation of a fable by the priestess and the king, Su-Sin. The priestess represents Inanna, the Goddess of Love and Fertility, and the king represents Dumuzi, the God of Shepherds, on the eve of their union.

Europe's Free Speech Double Standard

Holocaust denier's trial resumes amid cartoon protests
by David Crossland
Dated: February 10, 2006
SOURCE: The Washington Post

BERLIN -- The trial of an author charged with denying the Holocaust resumed in a German court yesterday, coming at an awkward time for Europeans citing freedom of speech to defend the publication of cartoons that have enraged the Muslim world.
Ernst Zuendel, 66, in jail since he was deported by Canada last year, faces charges of inciting racial hatred and denying that the Nazis killed 6 million Jews. Saying the Holocaust didn't happen is a crime in Germany, Austria, France and several other European countries.
Mr. Zuendel's work includes a book called "Did 6 Million Really Die?" Another Holocaust denier, British historian David Irving, faces trial in an Austrian court beginning Feb. 20. He was arrested during a trip to Austria in November and is in jail in Vienna.
The cases could provoke accusations of double standards by Muslims offended by cartoons of the prophet Muhammad first published last year in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten and reprinted in several papers across Europe in defense of free speech.
Publication of the cartoons, one of which showed Muhammad wearing a turban shaped like a bomb with a fizzing fuse, has led to often violent protests in which at least 11 persons have been killed.
Muslim clerics and politicians have accused the Western press of hypocrisy in refraining from lampooning Jews while denigrating Islam. Iran's top-selling newspaper this week announced a competition for cartoons about the Holocaust.

Neo-Con War in Iraq Costs Americans $2 Trillion, Says Nation's Experts

Bush's Con Jobs

SOURCE: Counterpunch.org

Will the US Need an IMF Bail Out?

Bushmonkeys.jpg
President George W. Bush has destroyed America's economy along with America's reputation as a truthful, compassionate, peace-loving nation that values civil liberties and human rights.

Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz and Harvard University budget expert Linda Bilmes have calculated the cost to Americans of Bush's Iraq war to be between one and two trillion dollars. This figure is 5 to 10 times higher than the $200 billion that Bush's economic adviser, Larry Lindsey, estimated. Lindsey was fired by Bush, because Lindsey's estimate was three times higher than the $70 billion figure that the Bush administration used to mislead Congress and the American voters about the burden of the war. You can't work in the Bush administration unless you are willing to lie for dub-ya.

Americans need to ask themselves if the White House is in competent hands when a $70 billion war becomes a $2 trillion war. Bush sold his war by understating its cost by a factor of 28.57. Any financial officer any where in the world whose project was 2,857 percent over budget would instantly be fired for utter incompetence.

What is on trial in the United States is not just George Bush, but also his God

By Lee Salisbury
Jan 24, 2006
SOURCE: Axis of Logic

A recent Zogby poll found that 52 % of Americans believe President Bush should be impeached if he violated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) using warrant-less wiretaps. Of those surveyed in this poll, 25% identified themselves as “very conservative.” A Republican Congress is unlikely to consider an impeachment trial. Nevertheless, a significant number of Americans seriously consider impeachment appropriate. But, what is really on trial?

Let us consider the values of George Bush.

Bush lied to America and to Congress to justify the Iraq war. Colin Powell regretfully admits he was duped into false misrepresentations about Iraq’s WMDs to the UN. Bush’s invasion of Iraq violated international law. The numbers of dead, maimed, and wounded are in the tens of thousands. An estimated $1 trillion will ultimately be poured into Iraq, 80% of whose citizens want America’s military to leave now.

Bush ignored the known deteriorated condition of the New Orleans’ levees long before Katrina struck. Bush cut funding for levee construction, watched New Orleans drown, and then trusted his incompetent crony Brownie (“you’re do’en a heck of a job”) to manage the chaos.

Bush's No Child Left Behind program has overburdened our national educational system and nearly gutted state budgets.

Fossett takes off to break record

by Irene Klotz
Dated: February 8, 2006
SOURCE: The Washington Post

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - Millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett took off in an experimental plane on Wednesday on an 80-hour flight that he hopes will set a nonstop distance record.

The GlobalFlyer aircraft, which has a wingspan as wide as an 11-story building is tall, lifted off around 7:20 a.m. after rolling ponderously down a rented runway used by NASA's space shuttles at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Fossett, 61, had initially planned to start the record-breaking attempt on Tuesday but had to delay by a day due to a fuel leak.

Fossett is out to break by 700 miles the 26,366-mile nonstop distance record set in 1986 by Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager in a nine-day flight.

Churches Terrified About Teenage Interest in Occult

Nation of Witches

A shocking new study finds that 73 percent of American teens are experimenting with the occult.

The results prove what Christian evangelicals have long feared: Today's kids have hardly any interest in stodgy follow-the-rules Christianity because they're too busy communicating with the dead, summoning demons and casting spells.

Based on nationwide surveys of more than 4,000 kids, Teens and the Supernatural was released this week by the Barna Group, a research firm for fundamentalist Christian churches.

"Teenagers relish experiences and the supernatural world provides fertile ground for their explorations," the Barna Group report says. "In fact, three-quarters of America’s youth have engaged in at least one type of psychic or witchcraft-related activity, beyond mere media exposure or horoscope usage."

Today's kids aren't just fascinated by the supernatural -- they're increasingly in direct contact with it.

Iran a Victim of CIA Entrapment?

George Bush insists that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. So why, six years ago, did the CIA give the Iranians blueprints to build a bomb?

In an extract from his explosive new book, New York Times reporter James Risen reveals the bungles and miscalculations that led to a spectacular intelligence fiasco.

She had probably done this a dozen times before. Modern digital technology had made clandestine communications with overseas agents seem routine. Back in the cold war, contacting a secret agent in Moscow or Beijing was a dangerous, labour-intensive process that could take days or even weeks. But by 2004, it was possible to send high-speed, encrypted messages directly and instantaneously from CIA headquarters to agents in the field who were equipped with small, covert personal communications devices. So the officer at CIA headquarters assigned to handle communications with the agency's spies in Iran probably didn't think twice when she began her latest download. With a few simple commands, she sent a secret data flow to one of the Iranian agents in the CIA's spy network. Just as she had done so many times before.

NYC Transit Strike - Over

The strike is over. The TWU guys felt their knees shaking, and felt butterflies in their stomachs, and started to sweat, and eventually succombed to their very cowardly natures and cut a deal. Now the MTA and the City of New York will NEVER respect them, and will feel free to happily walk all over them. If they had any guts, they all would have quit their jobs before signing a deal with the MTA without all of the terms they were after. The negotiations will now continue behind closed doors, and with a press blackout, so that no one can see the TWU leaders getting bent over a desk and fucked up the ass.

It seems that the TWU dude who rejected the MTA's offer, didn't have full authority, which is why the TWU's executive committee has to discuss the offer and make an agreement on it. So that could take a while. In the meantime, I'm stepping out to Veselka for a bite. - AAA

NYC Transit Strike

It's 12:09 AM, and still no announcement on the strike. TWU's executive board is voting on it now. Looks like there's still some reluctance by those guys to just strap it on and plunge it in. Not very manly, if you ask me.

NYC Transit Strike Imminent

by Andrew A. Anissi

It's Monday night, within the final hour of decision, and it appears that the Transit Workers Union will indeed strike against the Metropolitan Transit Authority. NY1 reports that the TWU has rejected the MTA's final offer and has walked away from the bargaining table. I guess I was wrong when I said those MTA guys are a pathetic, cowardly bunch of hairless pussies. The New York Supreme Court has placed an injunction on the strike, since it's illegal for transit workers to strike, but they're going ahead with it anyway! Power to the proletariat! Defeat the plutocrats!

Bush on the Constitution: 'It's just a goddamned piece of paper'

SOURCE: Capitol Hill Blue
Dec 9, 2005, 07:53

By DOUG THOMPSON

timecover.jpg
Last month, Republican Congressional leaders filed into the Oval Office to meet with President George W. Bush and talk about renewing the controversial USA Patriot Act.

Several provisions of the act, passed in the shell shocked period immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, caused enough anger that liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union had joined forces with prominent conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly and Bob Barr to oppose renewal.

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

“I don’t give a goddamn,” Bush retorted. “I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.”

“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”

Sol Invictus: The Persian and Roman Origin of Christmas

by Andrew A. Anissi

marino2005final2_30.jpg
In 270 AD, the popularity in the Roman Empire of the Mithraic Mysteries and Mithraism led to Emperor Aurelian's establishment of Sol Invictus ("the unconquered sun") as the Empire's offical religion. Mithra, or Mithras, was the Persian sun god, and his worship was very popular throughout the Roman Empire for hundreds of years. In 274 AD, Emperor Aurelian estblished December 25th, the winter solstice (the shortest solar day of the year under the Julian calendar), as the day the goddess Cybele, the Queen of Heaven, gave birth to the sun, Mithras.

The yearly rebirth of Mithra was viewed as a yearly renewal of the Roman Empire. Mithra, by the way, was born on December 25, of a virgin. His birth was witnessed by shepherds and magicians [magi]. Mithra raised the dead and healed the sick and cast out demons. He returned to heaven at the spring equinox and before doing so had a last supper with his 12 disciples (representing the 12 signs of the zodiac), eating mizd, a piece of bread marked with a cross (an almost universal symbol of the sun). Sound familiar?

Between 320 or 353 C.E., during the reign of Emperor Constantine, the Church decreed that December 25 would become the standard day of observance for the birth of Christ, since this date had long been recognized in antiquity as the return of the sun. Christmas, during the early centuries, was the most variable of the Christian feast days, and was often confused with the Epiphany, and celebrated in the months of April and May. Pope Julius I, in the fourth century commanded a committee of bishops to establish the date of the nativity of Jesus. December 25 (the day of Sol Invictus, the invincible sun) was decided upon. Not coincidentally, that is the day when the "pagan world celebrated the birth of their Sun Gods-Egyptian Osiris, Greek Apollo and Bacchus, Chaldean Adonis, Persian Mithra-when the Zodiacal sign of Virgo (the sun is born of a virgin) rose on the horizon. Thus the ancient festival of the Winter Solstice, the pagan festival of the birth of the Sun, came to be adopted by the Christian Church as the nativity of Jesus, and was called Christmas" (Crosbie). The church found itself:

By the end of the fourth century the whole Christian world was celebrating Christmas on that day, with the exception of the Eastern churches, where it was celebrated on January 6. The choice of December 25 was probably influenced by the fact that on this day the Romans celebrated the Mithraic feast of the Sun-god (natalis solis invicti), and that the Saturnalia also came at this time

Further, according to Annie Besant:

He is always born at the winter solstice, after the shortest day in the year, at the midnight of the 24th December when the sign Virgo is rising above the horizon; born as this Sign is rising, he is born always of a virgin, and she remains a virgin after she has given birth to her Sun-child as the celestial Virgo remains unchanged and unsullied when the Sun comes forth from her in the Heavens. Weak, feeble as an infant is he, born when the days are shortest and the nights are longest....(qtd. in Bailey)

The connection to the sun as a solar deity, the light and soul of the world, when it is reborn at the winter solstice, became the birthday of Christ, and he is but one manifestation of many ancient archetypal savior deities.

Israel should move to Europe, Iranian president says

SOURCE: EUobserver.com
09.12.2005 - 10:06 CET

By Mark Beunderman

Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has sparked fresh outrage with the suggestion that the state of Israel should be moved to Europe...

Speaking in Mecca on Thursday (8 December), he stated according to media reports:

"If European countries claim that they have killed Jews in World War II (...) why don't they provide the Zionist regime with a piece of Europe?" "Germany and Austria can provide the (...) regime with two or three provinces for this regime to establish itself, and the issue will be resolved", he added.

The Iranian leader also questioned the holocaust, stating "Some European countries insist on saying that Hitler killed millions of innocent Jews in furnaces and they insist on it to the extent that if anyone proves something contrary to that they condemn that person and throw them in jail."

Anglo-Saxon Woman On Bus Refuses to Give Up Seat For Rosa Parks

BRIT SPOILS US CIVIL RIGHTS TRIBUTE
Source: The Daily Record
3 December 2005

A BRITISH tourist refused to give up a seat on a New York City bus which was left empty to honour civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks.

Fiona Humphreys, 55, sat in a seat symbolically "reserved" for Parks to mark the 50th anniversary of her refusal to move to the back of an Alabamabus for a white man. Posters of Parks were taped to the first seat behind the driver on all city buses, asking passengers to leave them empty in her honour.

Public transport systems across the USA took part in the tribute. Some passengers unwittingly sat inthe seats but promptly got up when told of the tribute.

Many patted the seats and expressed gratitude to former seamstress Parks.

According to the New York Daily News, Humphreys was the only one who refused to get up. Travelling on the M-1 bus on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, she said: "I think I've got a right to sit here."

Rosa Parks' refusal to give up her bus seat on December 1, 1955, helped spark the modern civil rights movement in America.

She died last month, aged 92

Look Mom, No Hands!

segwayt02.jpg
Now this is a Segway we could really jump aboard. Unlike the standard American Segway, this newer Japanese version doesn't monkey around with such extraneous hardware as handlebars and saddlebags. Just hold onto the little handheld controller, hop on, and go. As with its more conventional cousin, the Segway PMP-2 uses gyros to sense which way you're trying to go and take you there.

segwayt03.jpg
We particularly like this little model because it's easy to transport around in your car or store under your desk at the office. So you'll be more likely to keep it handy when you need it. Plus, we like to envision a future X Games competition in which nimble youths perform death-defying aerial stunts on these things at mind-bogglingly high speeds. (Someone please work on that for us, okay?)

Is Bush lying about his lies?

by Andrew Greeley, Chicago Sun Times
November 25, 2005
SOURCE

Not only did the Bush administration deceive the American people about the reasons for invading Iraq, it is now deceiving them about the deceptions. In a burst of political tantrums, the president and the vice president have shouted that it was "irresponsible" to assert that there had been deception and it was unfair to the troops fighting in Iraq.

"What honor do Bush and Cheney have left?"
Is the administration lying about its lies? That many of the arguments in favor of the war were false is beyond question. Nor can there be any serious doubt that the new argument that it is irresponsible to question the old arguments is also false. But if a lie is a conscious effort to deceive, then the charge that the president and the men around him deliberately lied and are now lying again, then that issue must be left to heaven. It is enough to say they spread falsehoods three years because they had made up their minds that there had to be a war and are now spreading falsehoods about the original falsehoods. The president is not a man who likes to admit he was wrong. Therefore, one must cover up the mistakes.

Asterisks Dot White House's Iraq Argument

By Dana Milbank and Walter Pincus
Washington Post Staff Writers
Saturday, November 12, 2005; Page A01

President Bush and his national security adviser have answered critics of the Iraq war in recent days with a two-pronged argument: that Congress saw the same intelligence the administration did before the war, and that independent commissions have determined that the administration did not misrepresent the intelligence.

Neither assertion is wholly accurate.

Paramount's shame

Movie studio tries to profit off culture of real-life violence
SOURCE: Democrat and Chronicle (www.democratandchronicle.com)

(November 7, 2005) — Executives from Paramount Pictures didn't return calls we made to inquire whether billboards for 50 Cent's semi-autobiographical movie Get Rich or Die Tryin' will be going up in Rochester.

Paramount, which is producing the film, has received so many complaints from outraged citizens that it's funneling them to an answering machine that promises to "take into consideration all thoughtful comments."

Right.

Paramount, which has plastered posters of 50 Cent holding a gun in one hand and a microphone in the other near schools and scenes of gang violence, clearly doesn't consider anything but its bottom line.

Protests have forced Paramount to remove some of the billboards. Complaints should intensify.

In his song "Gunz Come Out," 50 Cent, whom Paramount is happily glorifying, raps "gangstas who signed with me actually let their guns talk." His entourage got involved in real-life gun battles with a rival rapper's outside a radio station earlier this year.

Companies must not get away with promoting the culture of violence.

Call Paramount at (323) 956-5000, ask for corporate communications and tell them to stop it.

African Studies Professor Demands Genocide of "White People"

The protein wisdom interview: Dr. Kamau Kambon
Full Interview Text is Available HERE.

kambon2.jpg
Dr. Kamau Kambon is a former visiting assistant professor of African Studies at NC State University and owner of BlackNificent Books and More in Raleigh. He is also a former professor of education at St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, a historically black institution, and in 1999 received a Citizen’s Award from The Independent Weekly, a leftwing newspaper.

protein wisdom: “Let’s just jump right in, shall we? In an October 14 panel presentation you gave at the ‘Black Media Forum on Image of Black Americans in Mainstream Media’ at Howard University (which aired on CSPAN), you said -- and I’m quoting here—‘We have to exterminate white people off the face of the planet.’ My question is, did you mean that, like, literally, or...-- ?”

Kambon: “-- Literally, yes. Wipe ‘em all out.”

protein wisdom: “Like, in ovens and such...?”

Kambon: “Well, the method is immaterial, frankly, though Whitey’s sheer volume would probably make the use of ovens—at least until the initial extermination procedure is carried out, and the herd thinned considerably—rather impractical. I’m no expert on these kinds of things, mind you, but if I had to speculate, I should think something more covert is necessary, like, oh, I don’t know… --”

He said there was nothing illegal about the requirement and that no investigation had been opened.

Jews Against Zionism

from the Hackney Gazette
10 October 2005

AN orthodox Jewish synagogue in Stamford Hill has been attacked and vandalised - not by anti-semetic thugs, but by fellow Jews who regard its leaders' outspoken condemnation of Israel as a betrayal.

Rising tensions over the forced evictions by Israeli troops last month of Jewish settlers from occupied Palestinian territory as part of the Middle East peace process has sparked a backlash among Stamford Hill's orthodox Jewish community.

Windows at the synagogue in Alkham Road were smashed after bottles were hurled at them last Thursday evening and the front of the building was covered with red spray paint.

The synagogue belongs to Neturei Karta, an ultra-orthodox sect opposed to the Zionist political movement that established the state of Israel as a national homeland for Jews.

The sect claims that the concept of a sovereign Jewish state is contrary to the teachings of the torah (Jewish law) and has led to the bloodshed in the Middle East.

In recent years it has staged the public burning of the Israeli flag on street corners in Stamford Hill.

The Garlic Catastrophe of 2005

by Andrew A. Anissi

It seems like such a great idea, when moving out, to take bottles of spices, so large that they could, conceivably, last a lifetime in the pantry without depleting, but when one arrives home and opens the suitcase to find one's clothes and other items covered in garlic from a bottle that sprang open as a result of a) a bumpy plane ride, b) an esoteric, ghostly force, or c) a wicked baggage inspector at the airport, one laments. One, of course, refers to me, after my return from Sarasota last night, when I looked in horror upon the yellow dust of garlic sprinkled evenly on each of my shirts and pants, and gathered in irremovable piles at the bottom of my suitcases.

It seemed like such a great idea to dump as much garlic as I could into my trash can, and throw my clothes into the laundry, until, like the sidewalk of a beach town, my bedroom has a layer of yellow dust detectable first by bare feet, and second by the not entirely displeasing, but highly inappropriate garlic odor which would, no doubt, drive away even the strongest of vampires.

The Garlic Catastrophe of 2005 occured on September 25. It will take time, and a good deal of perspiration, but the restoration of my bedroom to non-kitchen odors will be achieved.

Oakland man detained by sheriff for carrying a camera on a public sidewalk

by Andrew A. Anissi
Winged Earth

camera_rights.jpg
In Oakland, CA, this sheriff detained a man, Thomas Hawk, for carrying a camera and shooting pictures of warehouses. Hawk and Boing Boing depicted the incident as police harassment, but a power plant and some trains were in the immediate area. Hawk said he was "detained", but it seems he was merely questioned for 20 minutes, and his ID checked. Getting stopped and questioned can surely be annoying, but I wouldn't say the sheriff was in the wrong. After all, these annoyances are a small price compared to having a train loaded with a bomb and headed for San Francisco. There is a reason we pay taxes to this guy to stop people and ask questions. We need our security. If, after the questioning, the sheriff had taken the camera (or the film) away, the analysis would have been different. I don't think the present scenario would dissuade any photographers from carrying cameras.

Evangelist Robertson Says U.S. Should Kill Chavez

Aug. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Television evangelist Pat Robertson told viewers of ``The 700 Club'' program that the U.S. should kill Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop the Latin American country becoming a ``launching pad'' for extremism.

Chavez, 51, has repeatedly accused U.S. President George W. Bush of backing efforts to topple his government, a charge the U.S. denies. The U.S. has alleged Venezuela is using its oil to undermine democracy in Latin America. Venezuela, the U.S.'s fourth-largest oil supplier, has threatened to cut off supplies.

EVANGELIST EXORCISES CLEAR CHANNEL NEWSCAST

VIDEO

wham_video.jpg
(ROCHESTER, NY) - APRIL 15, 2005 - The Reverend Utah Snakewater "exorcised" Clear Channel demons from a Rochester, New York live television broadcast.

In a ceremony commissioned by the firebrand media watchdog group NEWSBREAKERS, the Reverend Snakewater intercepted a live news broadcast by Clear Channel property WHAM-TV (Ch. 13). Snakewater carried a wooden cross and delivered harsh criticism for the media conglomerate. Clear Channel owns WHAM-TV as well as WHAM 1180 AM in Rochester. Nationally, the company owns more than 1200 radio stations and 41 television stations. It also owns major interests in outdoor advertising and concert venues.

Loyalty Statement

by Andrew A. Anissi

I am loyal to the following institutions, in order.

First, to my family, to whom I have the strongest bond;

Second, to Rochester, the city of my birth, where I lived for the first 25 years of my life, and which my parents chose to settle in 30 years ago;

Third, to the East Village of New York, which is the neighborhood I have have chosen to live in now;

Fourth, to New York State, in which I have been a lifelong resident, and who provided for my education, and who has watched over Rochester and the East Village, and who provides a complete set of resources for a state-wide civilization;

Fifth, to the United States of America, of which I am a lifelong citizen, and in whose culture I grew up in, and who defends me and my communities from external threats;

Sixth, to New York City, the economic driving force behind the State and Nation, and thus the economic driving force behind all above communities; and

Seventh, to the United Nations, the community representing my entire species, and the only hope for world peace.

If Imperial Iran should ever arise again, as the land of my ancestors, it would be my eighth community, but no higher on the list, because I am too culturally removed from it now.

The United States - Land of the Revolution

by Andrew A. Anissi

Last year, a Japanese girl got very annoyed at me for criticizing Peter Jackson's movie, The Return of the King. Not that I thought it was a bad movie, I actually enjoyed it very much. My criticism was merely that it should not have been nominated for Best Picture because it lacked an original screenplay (the producers cheated by using a story that already had great market success). But I was quite surprised when the Japanese girl (who was actually my girlfriend at the time) asked, "Who are you to criticize?"

My first thought was that I was a member of the audience who paid to see the movie and was thus entitled to an opinion. But, reflecting on the incident, it occurs to me that the issue of my right to criticize Hollywood's most popular filmmakers resulted from a cultural divide. This person grew up in a country with a national culture based on total loyalty to the Emperor (and ultimately loyalty to all authority). The United States, on the other hand, has a national culture of dissent. Modern Japan began not after World War II, but in the late 19th century when the Japanese decided that competing daimyo in a feudal shogunate system no longer made sense, and the nation was united by allegiance and loyalty to the Emperor, who represented all of Jopan. To betray the Emperor was to betray their own Japanese heritage.

The United States, on the other hand, began when Americans decided that loyalty to a British monarch made no sense, and chose instead a culture of self determination. This was manifested through a democratic form of government, a capitalist economy, and the many freedoms that the Supreme Court has very slowly recognized over the past couple of centuries. The United States is not the land of loyalty, it is the land of the Revolution, and we American value our rights to think for ourselves and to decide for ourselves, in a land where, ideally, opportunity is great, and we can have the potential to recognize our dreams and then to fulfill them.

I have the right to criticize a The Lord of the Rings movie because I'm an American, and it's my cultural duty to have my own opinion and make my own choices.

What occurs to me, based on this reflection on American culture, is that the current regime is actually Counter-Revolutionary. Every time authorities attempt to silence people who oppose the President, to label as "anti-american" people who criticize the foreign policy, and especially when authorities attempt to punish Senators who vote in their best judgment, those authorities are opposing the very basis of the American Revolution. The current regime's demands for total obedience and for enforcing the will of the Protestant Church are anti-american, COUNTER-REVOLUTIONARY demands. We the American people owe no allegiance to the Crown of England or to anything it symbolizes. We are free to have our own opinions, to dissent, to choose, and to live our lives according to our individual wills. I'm not even sure it's the Bush who is the counter-revolutionary, but, more specifically, the counter-revolutionaries are the Bush-ites: those to whom the mere voicing of disagreement with the regime is immoral.

Failing to think for oneself and living for total loyalty to the regime is the path of a Benedict Arnold, and those who do so should be deported to Canada with all the other royalist toadies.

Advancement: Civilzation and the Individual

Advancement: Civilization and the Individual
by Andrew A. Anissi

First Published: Mensa Bulletin Online, Nov./Dec. 2001 Issue

We look into the barbarian savagery of the peoples of the past and we gloat. Our world has changed. Our civilizations have changed. Our societies have changed. But what always remains the same is human behavior as determined by intellect.

In The Mensa Bulletin 460, Harold Williamson claimed that only recently was the capacity for abstract thought added to the mix. Does this mean Pythagoras didn’t have this capacity? Siddhartha Gautama could not think abstractly? What about the Phoenicians who built modern ships and sailed around the Horn of Africa in 600 BC? Surely Lao Tzu’s Taosism required abstract thought, as well as Aristotle’s physics and Pliny’s medicine. Today’s intellects do not outsmart those of the past.
